Bulk tank project turnkey solutions

By Lukas Brink

TROTECH’s strength remains its ability to provide comprehensive turnkey bulk tank design, procurement, and construction solutions. As a single point of contact for these capabilities, TROTECH brings cohesive workflows, faster decision-making, and effective execution. This translates into a reduction in project timelines and associated costs, as well as robust risk management.

We have already successfully delivered more than 1.1 million m3 of storage capacity in 11 different countries over more than three decades. Furthermore, TROTECH has built over 100 tanks under the engineering, procure and construct model.

Experience shows that working with one bulk tank expert can reduce interface-related costs drastically. With TROTECH responsible for all site operations, coordination and communication are more efficient, mitigating the risk of misunderstandings. Furthermore, there is more transparent accountability and alignment with project goals. A streamlined setup reduces disputes and delays. This is in addition to related financial risks, including penalties or insurance claims due to interruptions or quality issues.

Bulk tank project operations

TROTECH’s bulk tank project operations and goals are always aligned with our vision. In turn, these are underpinned by M&D Construction Group’s core values, namely:

  • Be Safe – Around here, safety begins with me!
  • Do It Right – Around here, the right way is the only way!
  • Find The Best Way – Around here, we find solutions!
  • Do What You Say – Around here, you can count on me!
  • Khula Nathi – Around here, we grow, you succeed!

Including ethics, codes and standards, this M&D Group culture emanates from the boardroom to the project site. This facilitates seamless project planning, execution and monitoring. When dealing with multiple contractors with different management styles that operate independently, additional costs are also incurred. This is on meetings, progress monitoring, and resolving misunderstandings, all of which escalate project timelines and management efforts.

Bulk tank project planning integration

Working with one contractor also ensures bulk tank project planning and concept designs integration. This includes design philosophy and standards, as well as regulatory processes. These comprise environmental authorisations, municipal, national and provincial approvals, in addition to labour laws.

Furthermore, TROTECH confirms that all sub-contractors are aligned with project goals and objectives to achieve a positive outcome. This focus spans health and safety; plant and equipment movement; laydown area planning; and transport and logistics. Furthermore, we are in charge of the provision of bulk services; engaging unions; inspection; and overall execution.

Bulk tank project logistics

Consolidating contractors also eliminates redundancies in bulk tank project management and logistics. In turn, this enables leaner operations and eliminates unnecessary expenditures.

For example, plant and equipment can be used more efficiently when it is combined and planned under a single contract. This is especially when working across border. With import, customs and re-export documentation undertaken simultaneously, time and cost savings can be achieved. Savings in working capital are also realised when maintenance; fuel supply; and consumables management are undertaken by TROTECH. Certainly, moving plant and equipment under a single contract is also more cost-effective.

Considering that contractors have to budget for contingencies; this cost is also reduced under a single contract. Furthermore, insurance costs are lower for one project.

Bulk tank project legal risks

Furthermore, dealing with a single bulk tank expert mitigates bulk tank project legal risks. These include potential contractual gaps that are only realised when there is a default or breach. This can result in prolonged delays and cost overruns. The project can also collapse when one or more of the contractors fail to perform or are liquidated. Managing a single contractor is easier and relying on one balance sheet provides more project security.

When working across borders, contractors also require Political Risk Insurance. However, insurers prefer single contract cover. When more than one contractor is insured, there is a risk that none of them will be paid if there is a default.

Appointing TROTECH is a strategic move that improves interface management and mitigates risk exposure. Choosing TROTECH, we can reduce costs, simplify operations and ensure a more cohesive and efficient execution of projects. Brink is Managing Director of TROTECH
